What made you want to draw this? Is this spirit form any specific mythology?

I tend to paint lots of seascapes, waves and underwater scenes (because I love the ocean and surfing and diving), so I wanted to try a different style and composition from my usual stuff. I wanted to paint an abstract piece but not something obscure; my goal was to make an abstraction of something viewers would recognize without any realism. I decided to paint a stallion because it is a majestic creature often associated with a "wild and free spirit" and also because I was living in Louisville (home of the Kentucky Derby and a large equine culture) where I knew this painting would appeal to a variety of potential buyers/collectors (I sold the original in Louisville, where it now hangs in the office of a stock-trader and can be seen in the background of his online meetings). I utilized the earth-tone palette mostly because it was most likely to match the decor of the demographic likely to purchase the artwork, and I made the surface highly textured to resemble stone. The style is somewhat influenced by cubism but also feature flowing lines to embody the movement of a galloping steed.
